Kayll Road Library

In 2017 we drew up a business plan with a mind to taking over the operations of Kayll Road Library, which is a Carnegie Library - originally built using funds allocated by the Carnegie Charity.

We would like to express many thanks to Pallion Ward Councillors and Sunderland City Council West Area Committee for providing the funding to allow us to take charge of the building after our successful bid.

After lots of help by volunteers from the  local community to redecorate and get the library ready for the public again, we opened our doors in March of 2018.

What we do now

A lot of events are happening for people of all ages, some are free and others require a small contribution.

For children:

  • We currently have movie nights on Tuesday evenings at 4pm
  • We are expecting to start a toddler group soon to operate on Thursday mornings at 9am.

Places are limited so please do not just turn up - either phone 0191 5142011 or email to check for availability of places.
There is a £1 contribution required per child but this includes refreshments

For adults:

  • On Tuesday evenings there is a Sunderland Grieving Parents Support Group at 6pm after the kids' movie night
  • There is a craft and chat group held on Wednesdays between 12 and 1pm

We are constantly looking for new groups/ideas for activities and we are also on the lookout for more volunteers to help run the library so if you are interested please contact
